Emerson is 4 months old - OMG where did my newborn go?

Today Emerson turns 4 months old.  I can't believe how time has just flown by.

Crappy cell phone pic but I LOVE her face in it.
Weight: 14lbs (75th %)
Height: 24" (50th %)
Head Circumference: 16" (50th%)

What are we doing by 4 months?
*Grabbing EVERYTHING and then putting it in her mouth.
*Deep belly laughs, lots of smiling with facial recognition.
*Not rolling over yet, but can get 3/4 of the way over {SO CLOSE!} She has only rolled over once from back to belly, belly to back is going to come much later - she hates tummy time still!
*When we actually do tummy time, she can do a baby push-up and lift her head and chest up 90 degrees off the ground.
*She will "low crawl" when on her tummy all the way across her crib.  She sometimes wakes up in the morning on the other side of the crib!
*My moose is mostly in 6 month size clothes, we can fit into 3-6 but they are snug; 6 months are much more comfy.
*She has been in size 2 diapers for 2 weeks now.  She is still kind of in the middle though.  Her size 1's are a bit tight, and the 2's are a bit loose so her diarrhea has been escaping - mommy is not a fan! {Hopefully her diarrhea will subside once we start her on probiotics}
*Her new favorite thing is to lay on her back and tilt her head all the way back to look behind her.  Looks uncomfortable but she loves doing it. {Nosey little girl}
*Daddy is still her fave, I'm still just a milk factory - ::sigh::

We are starting super moose on rice cereal and some bananas.  She has been demanding the breast every hour, and if I do pump I give her 5 oz's every 2 hours. She is ready for some food, my kid loves to eat!

Blessed.

As I sit here and try to come up with a title for this post, I find myself typing a few letters, and then hitting the backspace.  Type. Backspace. Repeat.

So I went with the only true feeling that has been a constant this entire year and has been heightened during this Christmas season.

Blessed.

Quite fitting, considering that was the theme of this years Christmas card, that I am most proud of.  Sure, I'm proud of  how the picture turned out, but the true pride is in that beautiful masterpiece of a daughter that Brian and I created.

This Christmas came with chaos, laughs, cries, a few overdraft bank fees...but I have to say it was totally worth it - Just look at that face!

Aunt Neen lovin' on her girl!
 This year we got a real tree and it happened to be the "text book" tree.  Perfect size, perfect shape, perfect smell.  However, the branches could barely hold our ornaments, pine needles were everywhere and they were sharp {Will be making a stop at Harrow's this week for a fake}.  It was totally worth it though.

I have come to the realization that at least one of Em's toys will forever be in any all pics I take.
Spending time with the family was the greatest gift of all.

Em with her Gran Dukes (Long story behind the name), & Pop!

Em with her Great Grams, and Gran Dukes.

Daddy also got the greatest gift of all this year.

His sweet baby girl.

We also got our first blizzard!  The timing seemed to be perfect since it began the day after Christmas so we didn't have to worry about traveling.  Another first for me: enjoying the snow.  I hated the snow before I had Em.  I think it was due to having to schlep {As in, Sh-lep} around NYC and it was no bueno! Now, I have a little person that I can actually play with in the snow, and not have to worry about commuting in it!

View from my front door. The left pic is with our icicle lights in view. This is some storm!
Happy Blizzard & Merry Christmas!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

We have had such a late start to Christmas this year, but nonetheless, this has by far been my favorite Holiday season thus far!

Why?

We have been given the gift that truly keeps on giving.

This month last year we found out we were going to be blessed with a precious little one, and now she is here!
That's the only gift I need under the tree.
 Even Em has the Christmas spirit.  Well, we got her into the Christmas spirit.

Poor kid, had no choice in the matter.

My little present came with a pretty bow too.
Ok, they may be gold and not red but, there is no place like home!

We went to Brian's fire department for the kid's Christmas party a few weeks ago, and Em sat on Santa's lap for the first time!
She was a little nervous so we did a family pic with Santa!

I'm sure you all know what door this little beauty hangs from....

On the hallway closet door  - where else??? {hehehe}

I literally just sent out my Christmas cards a week before Christmas.  So once everyone receives theirs, I'll post it!  I am very proud of it too.

Hope you all are getting into the Christmas spirit!!

We thank God for Em's recovery AND the seahorse.

Tuggin' on your heart strings is one thing, but having your heart completely ripped out is another.

Em developed RSV.  A respiratory infection that is manageable in adults, but deadly in infants...

Our little Emerson Grace had to be sent to the ER on Wednesday due to high fever, shallow breathing, and elevated heart rate.  forget the fact that she was completely lifeless and lethargic. I really wanted to know where my kid went, because she was not the smiling, giggling, squiggle worm I knew.

On Tuesday, Em woke up with a few sniffles and a bit of a cough but she was acting like herself and had no fever. I called my pedi office and one of the nurses said to just monitor her and to call back if something seems out of the ordinary or if she develops a fever.

Well, the next day, Em did just that.

She was acting completely different and spiked a fever by noon time. Her fever was only 100.5, but nonetheless, it was still a fever and I made an appointment to come into the pedi office for 4:40pm.

Well by 2pm, Em went on a nursing strike, {so not like her AT ALL} and her fever hit 102.2.  I called the office and spoke to the "all knowing" receptionist and she told me that all the doctors and nurses were on their lunch break and I'd have to call back..

Um hell no!  I told her I had an appointment for 4:40 but my kid is lifeless and her fever is on the rise.

And, still, the peachy receptionist huffed and puffed and put me on hold, and then came back and had the nerve to say, "Well if you are really concerned I guess you can bring her in.."

Really concerned? You GUESS if I'm reaaaalllyyyy  concerned I can bring her in?

I told her I need to speak to a medical professional and not some girl that answers phones.

She didn't like that very much. {TOO BAD!}

I was told to come in immediately... BY A NURSE!  So off to the pedi we went.

It took almost a half hour before we could get vital readings, and then the pedi looked at me and said, "You need to go to the ER immediately.  I'm calling them now - Go straight there!"

So, my heart sank and off we went.  {A concerned friend, you know who you are, called and reassured me everything was going to be fine, and knowing what it is like to have a sick child, she prepared me for what we were about to endure - I thank you for your thoughtfulness xoxo}

The rest of our time spent at the hospital became a blur, so the pictures are going to have to explain...

These were taken with my phone while waiting in the PEDS ER.
Poor baby, in her little clown hospital gown, so sleepy and had no idea what she was about to face...
This was after 45 minutes of using my daughter as a pin cushion! {THANK GOD FOR THAT SEAHORSE - Our saving "grace" - literally!} Look at that little arm and IV...

After a full work up of blood work, an x-ray, and urinalysis,  Em was admitted to the hospital for 2 days.  Her sleep schedule was completely thrown off, mommy was up all night long trying to soothe her while the PCA's came in every 4 hours to check her vitals. Trying to do a blood pressure reading on a 3.5 month old is nearly impossible!  Instead of letting my baby rest, they let her scream while trying to get a reading and yet, they left the room with no results - why keep coming back and traumatizing her?

This was her sleeping quarters.  We refer to it as "baby jail".

After being diagnosed with RSV, She was prescribed a nebulizer treatment to try and break up all the flem in her lungs, and make her more comfortable.
Daddy, giving his little girl her nebulizer treatment. {Luckily, it wasn't a cryfest during these times - she actually liked it.}

On the last day in the hospital we had a special visitor...

Aunt Neen stopped by! She walked in and started to cry.  No she isn't a drama queen, she is someone who knows first hand what it is like to see your child sick in a hopsital.  My amazing sister {really my sister-in-law, but she is more like my sister} had spent the last 4 years in and out of hospitals with her one twin Eric.  He developed infantile seizures at 9 months and underwent numerous tests, EEG's, sleepless nights in the hospital, and a whirlwind of devastating blows with every assumption made by every medical professional that examined Eric.

So, crying was inevitable when she saw her precious little niece in that "baby jail".

Just hnging with her favorite Aunt Neen, passing the time blowing bubbles - Waiting to be discharged.

Of course, she falls asleep in her favorite place in the entire world. {That is a very exhausted daddy}

When we got home, Em was happy to be back in her own crib and her own swing.  We changed her into a fresh clean outfit and let her hang in her crib a bit.

Home again, in her comfy place.

With her seahorse...

Hoping withing the next few days she starts feeling more like herself and starts sleeping comfortably through the night again. {Mommy and daddy would really appreciate that! - LOL}

'Life Unscripted' is currently undergoing a major make-over!  Please be patient when reading the blog if you notice weird unappealing things going on.

I just had to.

We ordered a bunch of headbands recently {Etsy of course}, and I think this headband is by far my fave!

She reminds me of an old 1920's flapper girl. {Not the dirty, show your parts to all the men kind of way}  Just see for yourself!

Totally smooshable! {Not sure how the spelling goes on that one...}

End of totally 'G' rated cute baby flapper show - go ahead...call me crazy!

Weekend Photo Shoots.

We had a VERY busy weekend.  I have been editing photos like crazy since Sunday so I haven't had a chance to post anything new!  I am planning on doing a little recap of our week since it was super exciting, (Em sat on Santa's lap for the 1st time) but for now I'm going to post some pics of a family I did Christmas pictures for!

This is the "C" family.  They have 2 incredibly beautiful children, Antonio and Gina, and I had such a fun time taking pictures of them!  Super rewarding to capture raw emotion in one snapshot.

We call this one "Snow Bunnies" - Mother and Daughter

Brother and sis, enjoying some sweet time together in their wagon - purely presh!

Oh the things people will say...

Let me start off the story by telling those that did not know about Em's "Angel Kiss".  They are birth marks found in between the eyebrow line of a baby when born.  They are 2 red lines, and some extend over the eyelid {Like my little angel}. 80% of babies are born with one, and I really love Emerson's. They usually completely vanish by the time the baby is a year or two old.

We went to an engagement party last Sunday and Em was absolutely fantastic!  It was the first time we actually enjoyed ourselves at a function with her.

So, as big daddy and I were going to grab a bite to eat, I was carrying Em and a little old lady came up to us and the convo was as follows:

Little Old Lady: "Oh, what a beautiful little baby, what's HIS name?" {Mind you, Em was wearing all pink!}

Me: "HER name is Emerson."

Little Old Lady: "Someone must have kissed her, because she has a lipstick mark in between her eyes."

Big Daddy: "Yes.  She was kissed by an angel..."

Little Old Lady {Looking completely baffled}: "Oh...umm..that's nice.  HE is very cute..."

Way to go Big Daddy - Good comeback!!!

Ohhhh the things people will say...

Now tell me, does that look like a lipstick mark to you?!?!?
This is em at 1 week - When you can really see it.

"Well, she's a big girl..." {3 month update!}

Those were the words the doctor told us when we asked him why Em hasn't rolled over yet! I literally almost pissed myself! Em was officially 3 months old yesterday, but today was our 3 month check up! She is my little chunker!

 Height: 23 1/4" (50th %)
Weight: 13lbs. 7oz (75%)
Head Circumference: 15.6" (50th%)

She is a perfect average across the board!

Her accomplishments this month:
*Sitting up practically unassisted
*Responding to her name
*Recognizing when we leave the room (Not an accomplishment I favor - but it's good developmentally)
*MAJOR babbling!  She has really found her voice this month. She will talk literally all day long and in her sleep as well!
*She still despises tummy time, refuses to even attempt to roll over because she hates it so much, but she will literally use her feet to push herself across the crib on her tummy.
*She grabs her toys that hang from her car seat.
*She will scoot herself over to her binky if it falls from her mouth and suck it back in.
*I also think she is starting to enjoy her car seat!  I think it is because she is enticed by the toys a bit more now.

Here are some of Em's favorite things she has discovered in her 3rd month:
She LOVES her jumparoo!

She will spend hours in it playing with the toys...

Until she exhausts herself and falls asleep.
She also loves her exersaucer...

She loves kicking her feet around.
I think I bite those feet 100's of times a day!
